Hedgehugs honoured to be shortlisted for Oscar’s First Book Prize

Maverick had some very exciting news a couple of weeks ago… Hedgehugs had been shortlisted for the Evening Standard’s OScar’s First Book Prize!

Last Thursday the Hedgehugs team attended the Oscar’s First Book Prize party at swanky Soho House in London!

We all got dressed up and we were full of nerves and excitement as we mingled with the other nominated authors and their publishing team as well as other esteemed guests…

About an hour into the evening, the moment everyone has been waiting for arrives and James Ashton, Executive Editor of the Evening Standard, takes to the (imaginary) stage, with honorary judge, Gillian Anderson.

And after some speeches and meaningful words to the boy this is all in honour of – Ashton’s son Oscar – the winner is announced…

Steve Antony author of The Queen’s Hat!

Horace and Hattie were very gracious and were very happy for Steve and thought him a worthy winner! Gillian Anderson presented with the cheque for £5,000 and, with tears in his eyes, Steve accepted and thanked all of the people who have helped him on his literary journey.

He even gave us a signed copy of the book!

So although we didn’t win, we had a very rewarding evening and look forward to more nominations, short lists and, fingers crossed, some awards in the future! Starting with next week… Oh yes, the award season has only just begun for Horace and Hattie! Make sure you head on over to the People’s Book Prize and cast your vote for Hedgehugs when voting opens 15th-27th May! Until next time!
