Heart of Hawick

This year we had not one, but two of our lovely books shortlisted for the Heart of Hawick Children’s Book Award. A Scarf and a Half by Amanda Brandon and Preposterous Rhinoceros by Tracy Gunaratnam

Amanda and Tracy took a jolly little jaunt up to Hawick to take part in the awards. Amanda said:

“ I didn’t need A Scarf and a Half when [we] visited the Scottish Borders for the Heart of Hawick Children’s Book Awards. The sun was shining and [we] received a warm welcome […] We visited schools in the town followed by an awards ceremony in which authors faced a question and answer session from some of the children. It was great to take knitting-loving Granny Mutton to a town famous for its wool!

Thank you to Hawick Book Committee for making my visit memorable and Trinity Primary School pupils for their enthusiastic welcome to Granny’s extra long scarf.” Read all of Amanda’s post here.

Emily MacKenzie’s Wanted: Ralfy Rabbit, Book Burgler won the prize but Amanda and Tracy took great joy in being a part of the award and were inspired to see so many children engaging with books.
