‘This is a belter of a book and an absolutely fantastic debut!’ Father Reading and T Approve of David Crosby’s Debut Picture Book, Pirates Vs. Monsters

Kieron and T, otherwise knwon as Father Reading, have swashbuckled themselves some pirate bounty with this ARC of David Crosby’s debut picture book, Pirates Vs. Monsters – with illustrations by Lee Cosgrove;

For tonight’s bedtime story, T picked out a book we were lucky to receive from the legends at Maverick – Pirates vs Monsters by David Crosby and Lee Cosgrove.

Pirates vs Monsters is the tale of three pirates, Hector, Sue and George, who are enjoying some grog in The Old Parrot’s Head. As the grog goes down, their tales of great bravery and the defeat of monsters are shared to much laughter and back slapping. But, unbeknownst to them, something is creepy ever closer in the mist outside. Could it be that these three boastful pirates are over-egging the pudding? And might someone, or something, be about to knock on the door of The Old Parrot’s Head eager to set the record straight?!

This is a belter of a book and an absolutely fantastic debut! The story is brilliantly rhymed and full of silliness and fun. Pirates and monsters are a good way to guarantee a hit with young readers and here they are brought to life fantastically in the bright and often bonkers illustrations. T laughed throughout and was very disappointed with the pirates for lying! He enjoyed the story so much he asked for a solo read tonight (see if you can guess his favourite part!)…

Cheers me hearties!
