‘There are some fantastic twists, surprising scenarios and new friends to meet!’ My Shelves are Full Meets Nicholas Nabb

Erin over at My Shelves Are Full has been on a Victorian middle grade adventure with Jenny Moore’s latest novel, The Misadventures of Nicholas Nabb.

A botched bread roll robbery spells trouble for Victorian sewer scamp, Nicholas Nabb—big trouble. But when a mysterious veiled widow, Annie, steps in to save him, it looks like his luck might finally be changing. Only Annie vanishes before they can become properly acquainted, leaving Nick with nothing but questions. Who is the lady behind the black veil? Why does she seem determined to help him? And, most importantly of all, where is she now? Nick will stop at nothing to find out.

Three Words to Describe this book: Adventurous, Mysterious, Heart Warming

My Review: Nicholas Nabb lands himself in trouble time after time, even though he has a good heart and only wants to help! When he steals a bun, as starving sewer scamps are known to do, Nicholas is completely surprised to find a veiled widow sticking up for him and protecting him when he eventually gets caught.

When the veiled widow disappears not long after this event, Nicholas is sure he needs to find her and get some answers about his past from her! He is sure she knows more about him and his family, and these are questions he has wanted answers to his whole life.

The entire adventure has moments of laughter, despair and utter determination from all the characters! Nicholas is a loveable character who, with all his heart, just wants someone to love him and hug him close. Often times with stories featuring orphans, we can imagine they want to be loved but they don’t expressly share this thought, and I found this really lovely that Nicholas often thinks about hugs and love.

I was in awe of his determination to escape all that try to hold him or confine him, right down to his spoon skills! This book is wonderful from beginning to end and I adored Nicholas and wanted him to find his happy ending, but of course there is much he has to endure before he can find this!

There are some fantastic twists, surprising scenarios and new friends to meet!
