Hello on Day Four of the Slug Love Blog Tour! Today Heather Fishwick (@makexbelieveh) has written a fantastic review of Slug Love. Here’s what she thought:
Today is my stop on the blog tour for this fun, gardening-themed picture book.
Slug is desperate to make friends with the gardener. He tries tidying up the greenhouse and leaving messages in her favourite plants, but when faced with the bucket of doom, Slug wonders if he’ll ever succeed. Could a gardener ever really be friends with a slug?
This picture book had us giggling throughout. Slug really thinks he is impressing the gardener, but all his efforts only make her more determined to get rid of him! He is hopelessly optimistic, enjoying his flight through the air and happy that a trip to the compost bin reunites him with his old friends.
Shuttlewood’s illustrations are filled with colour and hidden detail (can you find the cat on the spreads above and below? It features a few times!) I loved Slug’s expressions, as well as Spider’s repeated looks of horror at Slug’s attempts to impress.
We really enjoyed sharing this story, and it’s a lot of fun to read aloud thanks to some great dialogue.
Thanks Heather! 🙂
Slug Love is available to order here.
Stay tuned until next Monday for the final stop on the tour…
