The Summer Reading challenge officially starts tomorrow! This year the Reading Agency are working with Guinness World Records to set the world record for most pledges for a reading challenge. The event will officially start Friday 10th July with a party ( of course!) to launch a weekend of record breaking pledges in Libraries across the country.
Maverick are thrilled to have three of our titles in the challenge this summer. The books included are:
A Scarf and a Half by Amanda Brandon
Little Lionel is disappointed when Granny Mutton gives him an overly long scarf for his birthday, when what he actually wanted was a football! But his friends show him how the scarf is the perfect gift for a little lamb wanting some fun.
The first book by author Amanda Brandon with brilliant illustrations by the very talented Catalina Echeverri.Â
The Black and White Club by Alice HemmingÂ
At Heavenly Hippos Wildlife Park the penguins have started up a new club… but only black and white animals are invited. Feeling left out, George the Giraffe comes up with his own plan.
The Black and White Club has been chosen for Bookstart 2015. It is also on Cbeebies Bedtime Stories, read by Sir Derek Jacobi. The first book in the George the Giraffe & Friends series.  Â
I Wish I’d Been Born a Unicorn by Rachel LyonÂ
Mucky is a rather smelly horse who has a secret wish to become a unicorn. On overhearing his friend’s wish, Owl calls some other animals together to make it come true.
Written in rhyme, this beautiful story is heartwarming and superbly illustrated by Andrea Ringli.Â
Make sure you sign up for the challenge and check out the events at you local library!
