Amanda Brandon’s book A Scarf and a Half has earned high praise this week. In anticipation of her book event with them later this month, Jacqson Diego Story Emporium in Westcliff on Sea, has named A Scarf and a Half ‘one of the best picture books of the year.’
Amanda Brandon will be visiting the Story Emporium on Saturday 31st January. She will do a reading and join in with activities inspired by A Scarf and a Half. There may even be an appearance by the famous scarf and a half she knitted herself…
Jacqson Diego Story Emporium at its heart is a bookshop, but the wonderful people behind the emporium are dedicated to encouraging children to love reading by creating a free and comfortable space for them to explore books.
“Whether it’s story time, an author visit, book clubs or a project with a school, all of our activities are led by the interests of the children taking part and we maintain a flexible, unpressurised approach, often using creative play and arts and crafts as a means for children to develop their opinions and ideas about a book or situation. We also use discussion, creative questioning, flights of fancy, mismatched subjects, and the power of cake.”
A Scarf and Half is already a favourite at storytime and we hope the children will enjoy a visit from Amanda. Maybe she’ll encourage a love of knitting as well…
